Overview
The Bandipur Cultural Tour 3 Days is a quiet alternative to the more famous Pokhara and Kathmandu stops - a preserved Newari hill town set on a saddle ridge 143 km west of Kathmandu, with views of the Annapurna, Manaslu and Langtang ranges. The car-free main street, the carved Newari houses, the silk farms and the giant Siddha Cave make this one of the most rewarding short cultural breaks in central Nepal.
It is the right pick for slow travellers, photographers, families and anyone breaking up the Kathmandu-Pokhara journey with something cultural.

Trek guide
A Preserved Newari Hill Town
Bandipur sits on a 1,060m saddle ridge in Tanahun district, midway between Kathmandu and Pokhara. Once a thriving Newari trading post on the India-Tibet route, it lost importance when the Prithvi Highway was built down in the valley below - which is why the town centre survives almost untouched today.
Geography
Drive time from Kathmandu is about 4-5 hours and from Pokhara around 2-2.5 hours. The town centre is car-free; vehicles park at the lower edge of town. Day-hike routes radiate out to Magar and Gurung villages, the Mukundeswari temple ridge and the Siddha cave system.
Mountain Views
On clear October-to-March days the Tundikhel viewpoint at the end of the bazaar gives:
- Dhaulagiri range
- Annapurna II, III, IV and South
- Manaslu (8,163m)
- Ganesh Himal
- Langtang Lirung (7,234m)
Cultural Stops
- Bandipur Bazaar - main car-free shopping street
- Bindabasini Temple at the top of town
- Khadga Devi Mandir
- Notre Dame School and the local silk farm
- Old Newari merchant houses converted to heritage hotels
Day Hike Options
- Ramkot - Magar village 1.5-2 hours each way
- Mukundeswari Temple - panoramic ridge hike
- Siddha Cave - one of the largest caves in South Asia, around 437m long
- Raniban Forest nature walk

Small entry fees only - all included.
