The Lapchi Hermitage Trek is a 10-day pilgrimage to one of the most spiritually significant Buddhist sites in the Nepal Himalayas - the sacred Lapchi Valley near the Tibetan border, where the great 11th-century yogi Milarepa meditated and left his footprint in stone. Located in the Gaurishankar region (Dolakha district) just west of Rolwaling, Lapchi is a Beyul - a hidden valley blessed by Guru Rinpoche - and remains one of the least-trekked spiritual sites in Nepal.
This trek combines wilderness camping with homestays, visits the sacred Chöra Gephel Ling Monastery, and culminates at Sephuk - a hilltop viewpoint with stunning views of Gaurishankar (7,134m).

A Pilgrimage in Milarepa's Footsteps
Lapchi is one of the most spiritually charged sites in Tibetan Buddhism. The 11th-century yogi Milarepa - revered across the Tibetan-Buddhist world - meditated in Lapchi caves for years, and the valley is said to contain his footprint preserved in stone. The Chöra Gephel Ling Monastery houses a community of monks and nuns who continue Milarepa's spiritual tradition, and surrounding caves are still used for solitary retreats by serious practitioners.
Geography
Lapchi sits in the Gaurishankar region of Dolakha district, just west of Rolwaling. The trail starts from Lamabagar, climbs through bamboo forest along streams to Lumnang (the winter village) and continues to Lapchi (the summer village). From Lapchi the route ascends to Sephuk viewpoint at 4,600m and visits a stupa at the Tibet border.
What is a Beyul?
Beyul is the Tibetan word for "hidden valley" - sacred sites blessed by Guru Padmasambhava as places of refuge from the troubles of the world. Lapchi is one of several Beyuls in the Nepal-Tibet borderlands. The atmosphere is contemplative, with prayer flags, mani walls and the sense of stepping back into ancient pilgrimage trails.
