Trek guide

Two Annapurna Basecamps, One Trek

By combining Mardi Himal and ABC, this 11-day trek offers two completely different mountain experiences. Mardi delivers a ridge-line drama with Machhapuchhre overhead - intimate, close, dramatic. ABC delivers the sanctuary experience - a vast glacial bowl ringed by 7,000m and 8,000m peaks. Each is rewarding alone; together they form one of the most complete Annapurna treks possible in under two weeks.

Route

The trek starts from Kande/Pitam Deurali above Pokhara, climbs to Mardi Himal Base Camp via Forest Camp and High Camp, then descends to Jhinu Danda. From Jhinu the route climbs to Chomrong and continues up the Modi Khola through Bamboo and Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp. Descent loops back through Bamboo to Jhinu and exits via jeep to Pokhara.

Frequently asked questions

How does this compare to doing each trek separately?

This combo saves logistics days and gives you two complementary experiences in one trip.

Is the order of treks important?

Yes - we do Mardi first because it provides natural acclimatization for ABC.

How fit do I need to be?

Strenuous - you need to be capable of 11 consecutive trekking days with two high-altitude points.

Can the trek be shortened?

We can skip either the Mardi or ABC portion if preferred.

How crowded is this combination?

Mardi is quieter; ABC sees crowds in peak season. Off-peak months (March, late November) are calmest.

What is the food like?

Standard teahouse fare in both regions. Quality is consistent.

Will I have time to rest?

This is a back-to-back trek with no formal rest days. Most trekkers find the descent days restful enough.

How cold does it get?

-10°C at Mardi High Camp and ABC overnight.

Can children join?

Children 12+ with significant hiking experience can join. Otherwise we recommend our 5-day Poon Hill trek.

How are knees handled?

Trekking poles essential for descents. Brace prophylactically if you have weak knees.
