Overview

The Nagarjun and Jamacho Gumba Day Hike is the closest proper Himalayan-style walk you can do from central Kathmandu - the Fulbari gate of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is barely 15 minutes from Thamel. The trail climbs through the Rani Ban "Queen's Forest" to the 2,095m summit of Nagarjun (Jamacho) where a Buddhist monastery, a view tower and Guru Rinpoche's meditation cave sit on top of the hill.

It is a great weekend walk for residents and a perfect one-day acclimatisation or warm-up for visitors heading on to bigger treks.
