Sunrise, Forest, Temple - In One Morning
Nagarkot is a ridge town 32 km east of Kathmandu and one of the best low-altitude Himalayan viewpoints in Nepal. Pair it with a walk down the western side of the ridge to Changunarayan and you get the whole story of the Kathmandu Valley in half a day.
Geography
Nagarkot ridge sits at around 2,195m on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley. The trail drops westward through pine and rhododendron forest, terraced fields and small villages to Changunarayan at roughly 1,540m.

Trail Description
The day starts pre-dawn with a 1.5-hour drive to Nagarkot. Breakfast and sunrise on the ridge. The trail starts behind the viewpoint and drops through forest, passing the village of Telkot and a number of small farms. A final stretch climbs gently to the temple complex of Changunarayan. From there it is a 1-hour drive back to Kathmandu.
