Trek guide

The Complete Langtang Region

The Langtang region north of Kathmandu encompasses four distinct trekking areas - Langtang Valley, Gosainkunda Lake, Helambu, and Tamang Heritage - which are often done as separate trips. This 20-day grand circuit links all four into a single coherent expedition, traversing landscapes from glacier valleys to alpine lakes to Sherpa villages.

Section 1: Langtang Valley (Days 3-9)

The classic Langtang Valley experience with Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri summit hikes. Walk through "the Valley of Glaciers" with Langtang Lirung (7,234m) dominating views.

Section 2: Gosainkunda Lake (Days 10-14)

The sacred lake at 4,380m, holy to both Hindus and Buddhists. The Lauribina Pass (4,610m) crossing offers some of the most spectacular Himalayan views in the region.

Section 3: Helambu Sherpa Villages (Days 15-18)

Descend through Sherpa villages including Melamchi Ghyang and Tarke Ghyang - centers of Hyolmo culture with ancient monasteries and sacred Guru Rinpoche sites.

Section 4: Ama Yangri Peak (Day 18)

The 3,647m Ama Yangri summit gives 360-degree views of Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal and even Everest on clear days.
